11.9 million in TE Funds awarded in KY through the Transportation Cabinet. Several greenway and trail related projects were funded. Among the projects were: Section of A.J. Jolly Bike Trail in Campbell County, Fort Thomas Memorial Parkway Shared-use Path, Olive Hill C&O Depot Acquisition to serve as a Visitor's Center and trailhead, Owensboro Adkisson Greenbelt Trail - Final Phase - Construction of remaining 5 miles (15 total) of the paved trail system that links the community, Lexington Healthway Trail - Construct 10 mile shared use trail around the Lexington Christian Academy and Shilito Park area , Richmond US Hwy 25/421Pedestrian & Bicycle Facilities Project - Repair 624 linear ft. of brick sidewalk, conversion of old L&N rail corridor into a 1/2 mile trail, Paducah Greenway Trails System - Construct 11,636 ft. of trail along the Ohio River, Mt. Sterling C&O Train Depot Restoration - Stabilize structure, new plumbing & wiring, ADA access, depot will serve as a welcome center (student FBLA club project) Will serve as a trailhead for "Rails to Trails", Bowling Green Community Bicycle & Pedestrian Facilities - Shared use paths connecting 8 schools, rec. facilities, neighborhoods and other community businesses and facilities

GOVERNOR FLETCHER, TRANSPORTATION CABINET ANNOUNCE COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS
$11.9 million in TE funds approved for various projects across the state
FRANKFORT, Ky. – (June 30, 2006) With an emphasis on healthy lifestyles and quality historic preservation, Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced the approval today of more than $11 million for 44 transportation-related projects.
These projects will be funded through the federal government’s Transportation Enhancement program also known as TE. Kentucky’s share of federal funds is administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
“Improving the quality of life for Kentuckians and making our Commonwealth a great place to live, work and visit is a top priority for this administration,” said Governor Fletcher. “These TE projects help us fulfill that commitment by providing quality projects that promote healthy living, preserve our history and improve the state’s scenic beauty and environment. This is another example our continued efforts to move Kentucky forward.”
Attached is a brief description of the projects that have been selected:
“The TE program provides us with the opportunity to undertake unique and creative transportation-related projects in local communities,” said Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert.
