The next Little Mount Trail Commission meeting will be
held in conjunction with the Bluegrass Rails to Trails
Foundation in Mount Sterling.
This will be an evening meeting and will be an
excellent opportunity for those who cannot attend the
day meetings.
We will meet Tuesday, January 10, 2005 at 630pm at
Jerry's Restaurant meeting room. This will be a great
networking opportunity with others within the
Bluegrass area...right in our own backyard, and I
cannot encourage you enough to attend. So mark it on
your calendars!
Pamela Moore and I have been working on locating
someone that can help us with an actual map of the
current property owners. I dropped off the
information this morning and hopefully I will hear
something back very soon, I will keep you posted.
I've contacted the Library and they have a railroad
map of the area, so that will be a big help as well.
I am also waiting to hear back from researchers from
C&O Railroad for other information.
The next step will be creating a packet of the pros
and cons of the actual Rail Trails. This will be
beneficial when we talk with property owners, so they
have ALL of the information in hand. It will be a
good resource for us. If anyone would like to help
with this, it shouldn't be too time consuming and
would be a great help. Please let me know.
Larry Ridenour that spoke to the group last month, is
in the process of planning a Big Sandy Trail workshop
(Lexington to Ashland) for April 1, 2006. The
location for this will likely be in Morehead or Mount
Sterling. There will be more details to come.
There will also be a 2006 Conference on Building
Trails for a Healthier Kentucky, February 17-18, 2006
at the Four Points Sheraton in Lexington.
If you know of anyone that is interested in the Rails
to Trails, please forward this information on to them.
At one point, I think it would be a good idea to have
a newsletter to send out to interested parties,
however we would need to find funding for this.
If you have any ideas or information regarding this
great community project please let me know. I will
welcome any and all. Lynda Wilson, 126 West Main
Street, Mount Sterling, KY 40353, (859) 498-8732,

Happy Holidays!
