The residents of Camp Springs plan to build a 30-mile trail for bicycling, walking, and jogging. It will connect Camp Springs with Silver Grove and Melbourne. Camp Springs is in northern Campbell County about 3.5 miles from the Ohio River, and 15 miles from downtown Cincinnati. It is one of the very few undeveloped parts of Campbell County, and the residents are strongly committed to keeping their rural community rural. The trail will give them easy access to a safe place to exercise, recreate, and possibly, commute.

This is the only picture I took on that trip in April 2000. Here is the trail web site: http://www.greenbrierrivertrail.com/.

Members and friends of KRTC met at Stearns, KY on March 26, 2005 to check out the Sheltowee Trace Trail. After a lot of exploring we found out that not much of the trail is on an abandoned line.

The nine mile trail runs from the park headquarters to the park boundary over much of the old Mammoth Cave Railroad and then connects to the one mile Park City bike trail and ends at historic Bell's Tavern. Surface is crushed gravel.
The Mammoth Cave Railroad carried passengers and freight between the main L&N line at Park City, Kentucky and Mammoth Cave from the 1880s until about 1930. About 40% of the grade was obliterated by highway construction in the 1960s. Engine #4 and a combination coach are displayed at the original terminus.
Funding provided by the National Park Service and a grant from the National park Concessions. Volunteers did the ground work of trimming and making a wide path.

July, 2003: A trip to Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Across the mountain in Tennessee and Virginia is the Wilderness Road Trail, which spans the length of the Park into Harrogate, TN on the southside of Cumberland Mountian, at times following an old rail bed. You pass many spur trails that lead to mountain-top destinations (hiking and equestrian only), mountain biking trials at Lincoln Memorial University, 2 or 3 campgrounds, a Virginia State park, many mountain valley hamlets, and one old rail tunnel. A great week-long trip! I recommend Oasis Pizza & beer in Harrogate after a hard day of recreating!

8 KRTC members rode the Katy Trail (stands for Kansas-Missouri-Texas RR) September 14-18th, 2004. The Katy Trail is 225 miles in length from Clinton to St. Charles, Missouri. In addition to just enjoying the trip members wanted to see first hand how a trail accommodated to farm access. There was next to no litter on the trail or signs of vandalism and the only fences appeared to be where there was livestock.
