Brighton East Rail Trail is the first rail trail in Fayette County. Construction of the first phase began in August 2006 and was completed in December 2006. The Grand Opening of the trail was held on April 22, 2007. This one mile paved trail from Bryant Road to Pleasant Ridge Drive is the first phase of a 5 mile trail in the area. Construction of Phase 2 will be from Pleasant Ridge Drive to Deer Haven Lane and is expected to begin in 2009. This section will also be one mile long. Parking for the trail is at Pleasant Ridge Park, 1350 Pleasant Ridge Drive. On September 25, 2008 it was announced that the LFUCG would received $526,000 for the construction of the Brighton Rail Bridge over Man O’War Boulevard. This bridge, to be constructed in 2011, would connect railtrails on each side of Man O’War Boulevard.
